Women's Basketball Assistant Davin Johnson Resigns
Pacific women's basketball assistant coach Davin Johnson resigned his position to pursue an opportunity in ministry after three years on head coach Lynne Roberts' staff.
"I have really loved having Davin on our staff the past three seasons – he is a great coach and person," Roberts said. "When I hired him three years ago, he shared his ultimate goal of eventually getting into ministry someday. Unfortunately for us, but fortunately for him and his family, that opportunity is now. While I am disappointed to lose such a quality coach, I'm happy for him and support his decision whole-heartedly."
Johnson accepted a position as Sports Ministry Director at Destiny Christian Church in Rocklin, Calif.
"To be able to coach at the University of the Pacific these last three seasons was such a blessing in my life," Johnson said. "I will be forever grateful for the opportunity to work along side such an amazing coaching staff and under the leadership of Lynne Roberts. The community and boosters were phenomenal in their constant support of Pacific Women's Basketball and it was awesome to be a part of history making these last two seasons; witnessing our players pour out their hearts on the court. I can't say enough how thankful I am to have coached under one of the nations' top head coaches and programs. Although I am venturing into a new career path and following a calling in my life, I can honestly say that I will have lasting memories from my time at Pacific and will continue to be one of their biggest fans."
In Johnson's three seasons on the staff, he helped the Pacific defense turn in some of the Tigers' best defensive seasons. The Tigers led the Big West this past season in three-point defense, holding opponents to a mere .266 from behind the arc. Pacific also forced 20 turnovers by their opponents per game in 2012-13.
Pacific's 60.4 points allowed per game and .371 field goal defense this past season were each the second-best mark in program history, as was the Tigers' 362 steals in 2012-13. The Tigers also recorded 323 steals in 2011-12, the fourth-best mark in school history. Pacific also have turned in the top three single-season blocked shot marks in school history in the last three seasons.
The Tigers advanced to the post-season the past two years, with trips to the WNIT. Pacific advanced to the second round in 2011-12 and the third round in 2012-13.
