My first memory and first artistic attempt occurred at age 2 1/2 with a red pencil on the wallpaper. Art was always a great love, and when in high school
the orchestra director was the one who encourage me to try painting in oils. He showed me how he went about starting a pointing, presented me with a small canvas, a brush and some paints. The music came first, both at school and with private lessons. This was at a time when non-objective art was the mainstream of the art world. I was interested in realism, which is now slowly coming back into vogue. I studied music at Indiana University and later added a masters degree from U.O.P.
Serious art studies began with basics at Delta College, where I was a student of Bill Williams, Jim Lewis, Steven Gyerrmek, Roland Cheney Joe Mariscal, and Mario Moreno. My studies have continued through the years with workshops and short classes with Daniel Greene, Rebecca Alzofon, Bob Gerbracht, Tony Ryder, Kathleen Dunphy, Gil Dellinger, and Tina Moore.
Also, many important though untutored life drawing groups through Stockton Art League with unofficial mentor and friend Carl Miller.

Born and raised in Stockton, Susan was encouraged by her artistic grandmother to draw, paint, and explore creatively. But a fascination with small things (seeds, beads, rocks, marbles, shells), the natural world, and how things work, led her to pursue an education and career in the microbiological sciences.
After several years of laboratory work (and crafting beaded jewelry as a hobby), a return to Stockton allowed for instruction in both lamp worked beads (melting glass rods with a torch) and fusing art/dichroic glass in a kiln. She now pursues the glass arts while working part-time as an elder caregiver, and is eternally amazed at the wonderful blending of elements, both technical, creative, and serendipitous, that working with a torch and warm glass affords.
Quality art glass is used paired with sterling silver, gold-filled, gold/silver-plate findings, chains and spacer beads. Nickel or pewter accent beads, crystals, and glass seed beads are often incorporated as well.
Susan is a member of the Northern California Society of Glass Bead makers (SGB NorCal) a chapter affiliated with the International SGB and is has taught fused glass workshops, particularly projects for children, through San Joaquin Delta College's "Kids College" Program.
